Youth at Risk Development Program (YARD)
YARD is a community program guided by the Calgary Police Service (CPS) Crime Prevention and Reduction Continuum that facilitates a comprehensive approach to the early identification and appropriate intervention with youth, ages 10 to 17, who are at risk of initiation into gangs, who already exhibit some level of gang involvement, or are involved in other criminal activity. The program targets boys and girls and is voluntary for all participants. As a target, the program aims to achieve individual short-term outcomes within 12 months, a duration that coincides with a standard probation term and aligns with the program focus on intensive interventions. YARD provides participants and their families with services that create or improve numerous protective factors, while reducing the influences that may contribute to criminal behaviour.
